The different types of hyaluronic acid

The different types of hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid, naturally present in the dermis (layers of skin between the epidermis and the hypodermis) is a strong anti-wrinkle and anti-aging agent.

It behaves like a sponge that fills up with water, thus contributing to good hydration of the skin and giving it a smooth and youthful appearance. It can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water, which is why sometimes its concentration is not extremely high but it can still be effective.

It is present in different cosmetics and fillers and we could differentiate them into several categories:

  • Creams with hyaluronic acid:

They are especially useful for deeply moisturizing dry skin or for preserving the effectiveness of a serum.

A hyaluronic acid cream can be applied to the face or body. For example, we can recommend the excellent Cerave moisturizing balm.

Above all, they help to avoid feelings of tightness and restore the comfort of the skin.

  • Skin serums with hyaluronic acid:

Depending on their concentration, they can be more or less effective. They are applied before the cream to deeply nourish the skin, and keep it supple and smooth.

They are recommended for mature skin to prevent wrinkles.

Be careful to choose well concentrated for better efficiency.

  • Microneedling serums

Serums and creams have an undeniable moisturizing effect but do not cross the dermis layer, so cannot go deep into the skin.

A solution to moisturize a little more deeply can be to use a microneedling serum. There are plenty of active ingredients including some with hyaluronic acid like that of MCCM here.

  • Skin Boosters

These are injections of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid that go to the level of the deep dermis. Its density and viscosity are much lower than those of filler hyaluronic acid injections, which does not create an increase in volume.

The booster skin that we can only recommend is the Prof, the most appreciated by our kind customers. It has a tensor effect, restores radiance to the skin and prevents the appearance of fine lines.

You will find a guide for choosing skin boosters here!

  • Cross-linked fillers:

Injections of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, whose density and viscosity are greater, will be those used to fill wrinkles, add volume, etc.

Depending on the injection area and the filling needs, there are different cross-links and therefore the fillers will not be the same.

Indeed, the restoration of the volumes of the face will require a strong concentration/reticulation/density like that of the Stylage XXL while an area like the lips will require less, the concentration/cross-linking/density of the Hyamira Forte will suffice.

These 3 notions: concentration, cross-linking and density are not all communicated by the laboratories for obvious patent and research and development reasons.

These treatments can be complementary, their effectiveness depends on several factors such as the condition and maturity of the skin, the regularity of the application, or the choice of the right product according to the skin!
